Manor Farm: Chapel and Tennis

Did you know that Manor Farm, Sutton Benger, used to have its own chapel? The outline of the bricked-in chapel window can still be seen at the back of the house. The village used to be controlled from Malmesbury Abbey, and Manor Farm was the demesne farm. It was no longer a chapel by the 17th century, when it appears in a Probate Document as the 'chapel bedroom'.

A current resident of the village remembers that her mother used to play tennis at Manor Farm in the 1920s. There is no mention of a tennis court in the 1920 Sale Catalogue - perhaps the tennis court was in the barn?
